| Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratorys research and development includes new energy technologies and environmental solutions with a focus on energy efficiency, electric reliability, carbon management and global climate change, and fusion. Ernest Orlando Lawrence founded the Berkeley Lab in 1931. Lawrence is most commonly known for his invention of the cyclotron, which led to a Golden Age of particle physicsthe foundation of modern nuclear scienceand revolutionary discoveries about the nature of the universe. Berkeley Labs Advanced Light Source is its premier national user facility centrally located on the lab site overlooking the San Francisco Bay. |
